too beautiful for earth…
December 15, 2017
“It still baffles me to think Tyler, one of your little humans, possesses full understanding of the Trinity and life surrounding, by the Glory of God. My words seem so human and inadequate to capture his experience (‘experience’…still such a human word).” – my sister, and finest confidante, Whitney.
Oh to behold, the beauty of my Savior’s face when He welcomed my son into paradise. The thought of experiencing God in all His glory is beyond my comprehension, but the fact that Tyler knows in full brings the most rejoicing I’ve ever experienced.
I received a small ornament following Tyler’s death that said..
“An angel in the book of life wrote down my baby’s birth, then whispered as she closed the book, too beautiful for earth.~Tyler James “
That ornament has remained in the same spot since some precious soul sent it our way. While the theology may be questioned, I find the message to scream God’s mysterious ways.
Isn’t there some truth hidden within this catchy little rhyme? “Too beautiful for earth.” I imagine Tyler’s heart was more beautiful than his appearance. It must of been in God’s weaving within my womb that Tyler’s heart became captivated by God’s Spirit…leaving even the smallest of minds to comprehend the complexity of God’s glory.
“You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”
Psalms 139:15-17
This verse solidifies what each of us longing for comfort from empty arms, needs. It declares that the sovereignty of God and His intimate knowledge of each one of us compares to no other. It reminds the mothers who have lost little ones that God’s love extends so far beyond our capabilities and provides perfection to complete our child’s true form, leaving them to lack nothing!
That is a profession of God’s goodness! His ultimate plan for goodness! Is it easy to accept? No, but it’s easy to declare. It’s never easy to accept that your child is out of your reach. But it’s easy to declare the certainty of God’s glory surrounding the very person you most desire to have on earth. Yet, my child entered this world having already received the approval of God’s glory. Simply, he was too beautiful for earth.
And while life here with my people seems so obviously incomplete, I can still rest in My little one’s dwelling, existence, surrounded by the glory of God.
“Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts.”
Psalm 65:4
I lose my breath all over again when I realize I wasn’t among those to watch my son enter glory! To watch Jesus look upon his face; to watch him look upon Jesus’s face! Then again, no greater joy then to know my children are walking with the Lord…do you think I can get a rewind on His reception into Paradise?
The great C.S. Lewis spoke of Eternity in his book, The Weight of Glory,
“At present we are on the outside of the world, the wrong side of the door. We discern the freshness and purity of morning, but they do not make us fresh and pure. We cannot mingle with the splendours we see. But all the leaves of the New Testament are rustling with the rumour that it will not always be so. Some day, God willing, we shall get in.”
Isn’t this a perfect reminder of the enjoyment of earth yet the longing passion that should reside within each of us to gain access to His full glory?
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11
And while C.S. Lewis is arguably the most respected and honored follower of Christ, his words bring no greater comfort when compared to those of The Author…
“Precious [and of great consequence] in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His godly ones [so He watches over them].”
Psalm 116:15
If you have a longing heart for a loved one that will not be celebrating this season on earth with you, I pray the comforts of God’s Words may leave you experiencing the peace on earth that He came to deliver.
